The Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro welcomes you to the South American Preliminary of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, to be held simultaneosly in five sites: Argentina, Brasil-Rio de Janeiro, Brasil-Recife, Chile, and Venezuela.. 

The International Collegiate Programming Contest is a worldwide event made up of over 20 regional contests and nearly 4000 of the brightest computer science students as contestants. In these regional contests the best teams are choosen to participate at the World Finals, that will be held next year in Orlando, FL., USA. 

At least two, perhaps three, teams from South America will advance to the Finals in Orlando. Teams from all five sites will be ranked according to their final score and the best two (or three) teams taken from different sites will advance to the finals, provided they have solved at least 60% of the problems correctly. Otherwise, the best ranked team not yet chosen will take the slot. In no circumstances two teams from the same university will advance to the finals. 

Important dates 

  • October 25, 1999 : deadline for the schools to register their teams. It is not necessary to register the team members by this date. 
  • November 5, 1999: deadline to the team members registration and fee payment.

  • November 6, 1999: deadline to send the Qualification Statement , filled in and signed by the Team Advisor, who must be a professor belonging to the school of the team members.

Important: The maximum number of competing teams in the Rio de Janeiro site is 40. In the case that this capacity is exceeded, the Organizing Committee will select the teams that will participate in the contest with the following criteria (in order of decreasing priority):

  • Coverage: as much as possible, the Organizing Committee will select teams coming from different states and countries. 

Date of registration: teams with earlier registration dates will have preference, as long as their registration papers are complete.

Arrival at PUC-Rio:    Friday, november 12th

When arriving at PUC-Rio, participants should look for the Cardeal Leme building,
which is on the left if you use the main entrance. The Auditorio Pe. Anchieta stays at
ground level. Registration will start at 4 p.m. and the buses to Hotel Novo Mundo will
leave around 7:15 p.m., just after the welcome cocktail. 

Teams should be present at the opening ceremony, since this will be the moment to
present the contest final informations, as well as the time availble for the teams to
clarify any doubts they might have. This ceremony will start at 5 p.m. at the same
place registrations will be held.

Step 1:  Deposit  R$ 300 (USD$ 150), by monday  november 8th, 1999,  in the 
             following  bank account:

Step 2 :  Fax a copy of  the deposit slip to the  site´ s director.
              Indicate beside the deposit slip the name of the team
