The Disembedding of a Brazilian Software

Lua is a programming language developed at the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro that came to be the leading scripting language in video games, besides being used extensively in many other areas from set-top boxes to Photoshop Lightroom. In this talk, Professor Ierusalimschy will relate the history of Lua and how the language disembedded from its local roots to be inserted into a "global" open-source culture. He will also comment on the difficulties associated with promoting a project from a place considered peripheral in that culture.
