LAC

Nucleus of Technological Innovation

Laboratory for Advanced Collaboration (LAC) has a mission to conduct applied research and to develop software for mobile networks, the Internet of Things, and ubiquitous computing environments. Since 2002, it has developed frameworks and middleware for distributed systems with mobile elements and connected via wireless networks. Some examples are MobiCS, a framework for simulating protocols for mobile networks, and MoCA, a middleware architecture for developing adaptive and context- and location-aware mobile applications. More recently, since 2011, the group has been developing and improving ContextNet, a distributed middleware in the tiers (cloud, fog, and mobile edge) to facilitate the creation of scalable and reactive applications in the Internet of Things with Mobility.  ContextNet is currently used for teaching and research in several research groups at PUC-Rio and also in other universities.
