Full Professor at PUC-Rio, Dr. von Staa focuses his research on Software Quality Assurance. In this area, his main topics are modularity, software quality measurement, software test automation, software engineering processes and computer-aided software engineering environments. For that, he works together with the Software Engineering Laboratory (LES) in research activities mainly directed to the development of projects for industrial

contexts, where there the quality of software can be assessed. Professor von Staa holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering (1965) and a master’s in Informatics (1969) from PUC-Rio. He also obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo (1974) and was inducted to the Order of Scientific and Technological Merit in the degree of Commander in (2008). He is currently a full member of the Brazilian National Academy of Engineering.
