BioBD is a ITS thematic laboratory that has two main research areas: computational biology and database systems. On the one hand, acting on a particularly interdisciplinary subject, its main objective regarding bioinformatics is to develop research and computing tools to support researchers engaged in Genome and similar projects. In close cooperation with researchers and research laboratories at FIOCRUZ, INCA, UFRJ and UNB, BioBD investigates primarily aspects concerning management, consistency and efficient access to data in the area of molecular biology and scientific databases. On the other hand, BioBD research involves database core research issues, particularly autonomic, self-management and self-tuning database systems.
