He has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (1983), a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering also from PUC-Rio (1988) and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal (1993).
